#AskFedi What #WebServer are you using to host your static content?

I'm just getting into self-hosting and have been looking for Apache/nginx simpler and lighter (small codebase, just the enough functionality for my wants) alternatives.
Atm, darkhttpd seems to be the best option, with the possibility of switching to (OpenBSD) httpd in the future if possible.
I would like to hear the opinions of the experienced people out there.

So, I don't seem to be seeing any useful information in systemd journal, but every time I enable this config and reload Apache it fails. I can't seem to figure out what I'm missing here. Any of y'all have any thoughts or suggestions?

Even if the ports aren't listening, that shouldn't cause Apache to crash out, I've been in that situation many times before. I don't normally use ServerAlias' much, but otherwise I have other almost identical configs that work.

#Vraag aan #Ziggo gebruikers: ik heb momenteel ons modem in bridge-mode staan. Onze huisserver doet zorgt voor #internet/#netwerk. Om er voor te zorgen dat internet/netwerk het blijft doen (met zicht op mijn ziekteverloop), denk ik er aan om het modem dat gedeelte weer zelf te laten doen. Maar, ik wil nog dat de #webserver daar achter blijft werken. Ik krijg maar moeilijk bevestiging dat #poortforwarding van 80/443 goed werkt. Ervaringsdeskundigen die me hier kan verlossen? #dtv

The good thing is that the internet is a worldwide thing and Americans have no influence on websites hosted outside the USA. So make sure your website is hosted on a server outside the USA!

To comply with trump's order to remove "woke ideology" from federal institutions, the CDC has instructed its scientists to retract or pause any research containing these words: - gender - transgender - pregnant people - pregnant person - lgbt - transsexual - non-binary - assigned male/female at birth - Biological gender
The first nazi book burning was Magnus Hirschfeld's institute for sexual research, where he performed some of the first sexual reassignment surgeries, and his library contained pioneering research on gay, transgender and intersex topics. On 6 May 1933, the library was raided by the Nazis and its content burned at the street

@boarim I would say either Apache or nginx on Linux. Primarily because you say you're already comfortable with Linux, and because both Apache and nginx are widely used so finding documentation and examples and getting help will be easier.

By all means do spin up a VM somewhere to learn about the BSDs, and maybe try out some other web server software; but for something which is readily accessible over the Internet, please use something you are familiar and comfortable with.
