The Detroit River is part of a connecting channel between Lakes Huron and Erie. Lake #Erie has a strong #seiche when the wind blows continuously from the southwest. Water piles up the deep eastern basin slightly raising water level there, but significantly drops in the shallow western basin where the #Detroit R enters. This is messing with ship traffic because they have to be *much more careful to not run aground in the channel or entering port facilities.
