"It is now time to fix it for good. A new solution has been proposed: partitioning visited link history. This approach fundamentally changes how browsers store and expose visited link data. Instead of maintaining a global list, web browsers will store visited links with a triple-key partition:

- Link URL. The destination of the visited link.
- Top-Level Site. The domain of the main browsing context.
- Frame Origin. The origin of the frame rendering the link.

A link is only styled as :visited if it was visited from the same top-level site and frame origin (...) This approach guarantees isolation and works well with the web's same-origin policy. The system records only navigations initiated by link clicks or scripts—excluding direct address bar entries or bookmark navigations.

Key benefits of this model include: strong protection against cross-site history leaks, solving for good of many known side-channel attacks, support for meaningful styling within trusted, same-context domains, conforming to established web privacy principles and data protection regulations.

This feature is already implemented in Chrome (v132, behind a #partition-visited-link-database-with-self-links flag). I am confident that in 2025 we are going to have this privacy headache solved once and for all."

Reboot Loop

Man kennt sie: die Screens, die in der S-Bahn die nächsten Haltestellen und das Ziel des Zuges anzeigen. In jedem Wagen existieren sie mehrmals: oben vorne und hinten, sowie unten, bei den Eingängen.

Dass es sich nicht einfach um Screens handelt, die von einem Computer gesteuert werden, habe ich bereits mal herausgefunden. Stattdessen sind sie jeweils mit einem Linux-Computer verbunden, der offenbar nichts anderes tut, als einige Scripts ablaufen zu lassen und schliesslich die richtigen Webinhalte darzustellen.

Woher ich das alles weiss? In meinem Wagen ist gestern zum zweiten Mal innert zwei Tagen – beziehungsweise halt immer noch seit vorgestern – einer der Screens in einem Loop gefangen. Er erkannte die „normale“ Startpartition nicht, startete stattdessen über eine zweite Partition, eine „Recovery Partition“. Dort liefen verschiedene Scripts ab. Es schien danach fast so, als gelänge nun der Start. Das Ganze begann nach etwa dreissig Sekunden jedoch jeweils von vorn.

Da war dann wohl nichts mehr zu machen …

I need some partitioning help. I thought I had it figured out, but ...

I had a 250GB boot drive partitioned for my laptop, I cloned it to a 2TB drive and thought I expanded the right partition, but I'm missing a step.

These screenshots show the configuration of the drive now.

If you have any tips on how to expand the /dev/FWlappy-vg drive/volume group/etc to 1.5TB or full, please let me know!

I'm so annoyed I may format and start from scratch.
