More painting as escapism.

This time, I painted an ogre. Had some fun with it, experimenting with layering colors and practicing getting paint where I want.

On this mini, I think the thing I am most pleased with are the stitches on the leather – I got them almost perfect!

The actual mini isn't as bright as this photo makes it look. I need to do a better job of getting a lighter slapchop grayscale base and thinning my paints more. Live and learn.

More miniature painting this evening. Tonight it was some orc warriors. Again, not 100% happy with it, but I am pleased with improvements to my brush control. I feel like I can *almost* get the paint to where I want it to go. Still having trouble with tiny details and recovering from applying paint where I don’t want it.

Right now my escape from the madness is “Five Leagues from the Borderlands”, a solo skirmish wargame with RPG elements.

I’m learning how to paint miniatures for the game and…well, it’s coming along. I’m still not 100% happy with my work when I am done but I can see a lot of progress looking back at my earlier attempts.

For these wargs I tried edge highlighting for the first time and it helped a LOT!

Uprising: Curse of the Last Emperor, solo

Got a comfortable win in this matchup after my close loss earlier this week. I had an interesting game this time where I tried something completely different, having one of my factions go quest heavy. It worked surprisingly well, a very interesting way to play the game that showed off its flexibility and range. My character had an ability to pick up discarded quest cards and use them in fights, so I dumped them in a final very difficult battle and rolled a huge fist full of dice in the second picture. Fun, orthogonal way to play Uprising. Uprising has that Spirit Island thing where your enemy seems impossible to overcome but combinations of your tools make it completely possible, which is a way to make the player feel quite clever.
