Was habt ihr denn jetzt mit #godaddy und #hosteurope? Hosteurope ist seit 2016 eine Tochter des US Unternehmens und bedeutet das die Mails theoretisch gelesen werden können nach amerikanischem Recht. #unplugtrump

In the list of recommended alternatives, I miss @hostsharing A German cooperative for web-, mail-, etc. hosting. I'm posting this from hostsharings mastodon instance. It's great. Become a member, and use it.
HostEurope, a formerly European web and e-mail hosting provider acquired by GoDaddy in 2016, just informed its customers that it will move their IMAP folders and everything e-mail to Microsoft's MS365 offer.
This move does not only incur additional fees for many customers – it also raises privacy concerns.
We recommend you empty all of your IMAP folders now and move your e-mail (domains) to one of the trustworthy e-mail services listed here: https://switching.software/replace/gmail/
Trademarks used by HostEurope Group include 123-reg, Webfusion, Heart Internet, BrandFortress, Host Europe, Domainbox, Domainmonster, Domainfactory, DonHost, Sign-Up.to, velia.net and RedCoruna. Their users might also be affected.
PS: HostEurope has published the following FAQ:
#df.eu wird immer schlimmer, gammelt schon. #Godaddy lässt den Hoster #domainfactory sukzessive ausbluten, bzw. macht ihn maximal unattraktiv. Als ob die #Treuhand am Werk ist.
Wer da noch irgendwas liegen hat, nehmt euer Zeug und verschwindet so zügig wie möglich.
TBC: Yes we’ll just go with a different domain (though not from #GoDaddy)
TIL #GoDaddy offers a domain squatter negotiation racket. Er service, I meant ‘a domain squatter negotiation service’
Might’ve settled on a name and domain for a new project. Someone there has the domain. I hate the idea of buying a squatted domain, but to try it you must:
- Pay $120 for a ‘domain broker’ to begin negotiations
- Your ID is supposedly kept secret
- If you like the price, you pay for the domain, plus
- A TWENTY PERCENT COMMISSION
Seriously. A racket
In the 90th i was the first proud owner of #PUPE(dot)COM domain but i lost it in 2004 because hazzle money issues.
Nowadays #GoDaddy holds my old #Domainname & want to sell it.
Their first offer is 30.000 USD but this is more than a year sallary.
Works anybody from the #Hacker-/#Maker-Scene here on #Mastodon for #GoDaddy & could advice me with internals employe Hacks to get my old #Internet Home-Harbor back?
Buenos días. Necesito vuestra ayuda: ¿alguien por ahí sabe algo de #GoDaddy? ¿Puede ser que esté caído y/o que estén fallando sus dominios?
@CursedSilicon @patagona yeah.
Worst are the "#TooBigToBlock" #Spammers like #Microsoft, #Google and #Yahoo which will instantly blackhole your mails to their customers (but not vice versa!) if you don't comply to their bs, but in return they don't even take #AbuseReports.
Same with everything registered/hosted at #GoDaddy & #NameCheap: They just refuse to act upon #Spam-Reports at all!
what is the EU equivalent of GoDaddy hosting service (for setting up a non Google email)? #email #goDaddy #google #fuckAllTheseFuckingFucks
I'm pretty wary of GoDaddy's under-writing support for WP Community Collective. This is a bit like being allied with Stalin to defeat Hitler. I think we all recall how that turned out.

“GoDaddy has failed to implement reasonable and appropriate security measures to protect and monitor its website-hosting environments for security threats, and misled customers about the extent of its data security protections on its website hosting services.”

I quit the GoDaddy hosting shitshow the day I saw CEO Bob Parsons posting photos of himself proudly standing with a gun over a dead, endangered elephant he had shot on safari.
I've only discovered more reasons to be glad I left ever since.
My current host is awesome, flexible, reliable and uses 100% green generated energy in a privacy respecting juristiction.
There are so many infinitely better hosts if one just takes a moment to Kagi it.

FTC sues GoDaddy for years of poor hosting security practices
A very fair charge against #GoDaddy. I can recall blocking hundreds of IPv4 ranges over abuse that went officially unattended for years. https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/ftc-orders-godaddy-to-fix-poor-web-hosting-security-practices/ #InfoSec #SecOps
FTC Takes Action Against GoDaddy for Alleged Lax Data Security for Its Website Hosting Services:
Question for my nerdier-than-most friends here on #HamRadio Mastodon...
I've used #GoDaddy as my registrar since the '90s, I think. Long time. They were cool back then. They've become more icky since.
Not moving my primary domain 'cuz it's too much work. But I'm also holding a domain for my son who doesn't have any complex needs like I do. Just an email alias that points to his gmail - that's IT.
Can you suggest a registrar that's fair priced, & good to work with?
