is it too late to join the #pipewire party? i hope not, or else my #flx1 will be sad

all applications that use pipewire can finally utilize the camera (adding to our list of v4l, qtmultimedia and android apps)

one issue we are facing is that aperture is not very happy with the back cameras, so applications like #GNOME snapshot or authenticator will have the preview flipped. captured frames are surprisingly not flipped tho:

Dear @Mer__edith and the the amazing @signalapp team,

After the last update, the Signal "desktop app" is requiring us to launch the mobile app - however, many of us do not have the Android or any other "mobile" version of the Signal app any more.

We are a large (by our standards) group of #Linux phone users, and your "desktop" app is our "mobile" app : )

Our previous phones on which #SignalApp was initially activated was an Android or Apple device and we have since then completely migrated to #Linuxphones. Some of us may have registered Signal on #signalcli, Flare, #Molly, Signal Android in #WayDroid, etc.

The #mobileLinux community is growing - we have members spanning a good number of projects and devices, e.g.
- @purism #Librem5 and #LibertyPhone running #Debian-based #PureOS #GnuLinux, #Alpine-based #PostmarketOS or #Mobian,
- @PINE64 #Pinephone and PP Pro running #ManjaroARM, #SailfishOS, etc.
- @furilabs #FLX1 running #Droidian-based #FuriOS,
- a wide variety of Android phones (including OnePlus 6, Google Pixel 3, #Fairphone 4 & 5) running #Alpine-based @postmarketOS ,
- @volla , #Fxtec and #Brax3 devices running #UbuntuTouch by @ubports,
- devices running @mobian which is part of #Debian project, etc.

[Apologies to any project I may have failed to include - you are all appreciated]

after many days of work, here is another functional demo of #GNOME shell running on the secondary display connected to the #flx1. it took many hours to build the app and make everything act nice and not crash and integrate cleanly. still a long way to go but i think it is a good time to showcase the progress in the past 7 days.

i hope to get this ready and done by 13.0.9 which is the next release but obviously no promises.

FOSS mobile OS FuriOS has been updated to version 13.0.8 The update includes battery management improvements, modem improvements, MMS improvements, and more. I was able to upgrade my FLX1 from 13.0.7 to 13.0.8 simply with a couple rounds of "sudo apt update" and then "sudo apt upgrade". I had no issues with my upgrade.

The main website for FuriLabs is here:

A full changelog for the update can be found here:

The store page for the FLX1 is here:

The company has a Github page where their code can be found:

another update on this the battery has now dropped by 30% in 85 hours.

at this rate it the estimated 100 to 0 is roughly around 12.5 days. of course there is still room for optimizations so we can easily get it to 14 days of idle time, but i think this will do for this month.

#FuriOS update 13.0.8 for #FLX1 has been delayed by about 10 days, but you why was this?

I decided to find the reason for the battery drain here is what we found

firstly, packagekit is a battery hog, so we wrote a #GNOME software plugin for aptkit for system updates, second was related to modems mainloop being blocked (sometimes and inconsistently) and not going to sleep and last (the hardest to find) was with the WiFi driver not going to sleep correctly.

All fixed up and landing this month!

...My bank's app works perfectly! That app is able to access the camera, while another app - Fetch (rewards for receits) - is not. Speaking of camera, as you can see from attached images and video, the quality is pretty good. However, there were a few issues. When you first open the camera app, it is set to 4:3. Switching to 16:9 causes screen to be compltely blurry. You can fix that by clicking on video button...

...My laptop uses Pipewire, while FLX1 uses PulseAudio. Another annoyance is the artifacts left by Android apps uninstalled by Aurora store (seen in the attached screenshot). To properly uninstall these apps, you nee to go to Android part of settings and remove app data and then remove the app from there to not have artifacts remain. I haven't figured out how to remove the artifacts...

This is a review of a FLX1 phone. I am located in USA and as a phone it works fine (I use T-Mobile). Calls and messages work well, although sound is not very loud, it is very clear. Android works out of the box! Not every app will install, let alone fully functional, but because it runs inside of container apps might not have access to everything they need. Then there are apps that look for google services...

...The biggest annoyance for me is the bluetooth, specifically connecting audio devices. I tried connecting 2 different sets of earbuds. When initially paired, the sound is great. When you put the away and then try to use them again, the sound breaks so badly, it is unusable. You have to forget the device and pair it again for it to work. Works fine with my car though. My earbuds work fine with my Linux laptop...

...Another issue, as you can see from the attached video, recording the video in lanscape position does not work properly. GPS works! It works with installed Maps app and it works with android version of OsmAnd. I did not see a button on Maps to start navigating and on OsmAnd, there is no sound. Battery life is what you expect out of Linux phone. 5000 mAh battery barely lasts a day, but it is replaceable...
