♻️ Sustainable technology requires rethinking our relationship with electronic devices:

The @RightToRepair movement is making progress securing legislation for repairable products
Modular phone designs like @Fairphone show electronics can be built to last
Repair cafés and @iFixit empower users to extend device lifespans

Environmental tech isn't just about energy—it's about consumption patterns too.

The EU targets clothes and furniture in a crackdown on wasteful consumerism.

Textiles, furniture, tires and mattresses will be subject to much stricter design standards to ensure they last longer, as the EU aims to stamp out wasteful consumption, the European Commission confirmed on Wednesday.

From Gadgets to Garbage 📱🌍 🚫

62 million metric tons of e-waste in 2022 — and only 22% was properly recycled. The rest? Landfills, illegal exports, or lost forever. It's about responsibility and sustainability.

✅ Promote sustainable design + the Right to Repair
✅ Buy reused and refurbished
✅ Support ethical recycling

How do you approach this? Repairing more? Skipping upgrades? Buying refurbished?

#Colorado - #Libraries and the ‘economy of sharing’

An ode to the palace of the people

By Kaylee Harter - Apr. 9, 2025

"Visit one of BPL’s #makerspaces, a feature that’s become a staple in many libraries, and you can use #3DPrinters, #looms, #LaserCutters, #ScreenPrinting equipment and more.

" 'It’s a collaborative learning environment,' Farnan says. 'We’re learning together. If you were to go into the makerspace today and ask, like, ‘I’m thinking about doing this,’ then they would say, ‘I don’t know how to do that, but let’s figure it out.’

" 'That is inherently resilient.'

"He recalls a blind artist who came in with a unique challenge: 'She wanted to be able to see her drawings.'

" 'They worked with her with 3D printers, with the laser cutters and that kind of thing, in order to transfer her drawings into dimensional objects, because they were abstractions, so that she could then see them with her fingers.'

"Despite the always expanding array of programming and services, the books themselves — and literacy for all ages — are ever important."

It doesn't matter how vehemently or often or long something is said, if it aint so it is not so.

Here somebody with an actual brain and the career path to use that capability, lays it out : AGAIN.

It will not make one Nostalgic Nationalistic Nutjob of Nope2Woke difference, but at least it validates the truth _one_ _more_ _time_.

Michael West · Forget nuclear, Australia is on fast lane to 100pc renewables - Michael WestA massive increase in solar power generation capacity is already putting Australia on the fast track to a 100% renewable energy future.

Here's the Ithaca Reuse Center where I bought the TV; reuse has three stores where you can get kitchenware, furniture, clothes, books, consumer electronics and all sorts of things. It's one thing my wife and I completely agree on. Behind that row of winter phase trees is Titus Towers, a senior housing development.

Instead of going to a Hands Off protest tomorrow I'm resisting consumerism & supporting our environment by donating lots of stuff to Zero Waste Tucson, a community-driven movement that aims to promote sustainable consumption & production practices. Donated items are reused/repaired/refurbished/resold/recycled, helping our circular economy.
