In these environments it's often common to develop improvements to distribution packages and want to contribute them upstream. Unfortunately, until very recently that required one to then maintain their own build and deployment pipeline for the packages, at least until the changes made their way into the distribution.
CentOS Proposed Updates (CPU) SIG aims to bridge this gap - changes that have been submitted as merge requests can be built in this SIG, providing those who run Stream in production with access to needed updates while they make their way into CentOS Stream. We hope this will help increase collaboration between RHEL engineers, CentOS Stream contributors, and the rebuild community as well, especially those that have distributions derived from CentOS Stream directly (such as AlmaLinux with AlmaLinux OS Kitten), as everyone can focus on making improvements without reinventing their own build pipelines.

@itsfoss I don't think building a distro is the best way to switch to Linux for the public sector.
The EU should test @SUSE, which is based in Germany or a community-based distro like #AlmaLinux.
Building a New Distro is, IMO, wasting ressources that can be used in training PEOPLE to use Linux and Implementation.

If I could find the people who created the disk prep portion of the Alma Linux installer I would spend the rest of my life in prison. It would be worth it. It bears a resemblance to something I've used before so I guess the RH/CentOS folks are likely the perpetrators.
All I want is a 3-way mirror with minimal complexity on 3 SSDs. It can be done, but only by ignoring bad clues in the GUI. You can get to that setup, but it is not surfaced at all.

Meta disclosed a high-priority remote code execution vulnerability in freetype earlier this week, CVE-2025-27363. Patches are available for testing in #AlmaLinux

On Monday Meta announced a flaw in FreeType versions 2.13.0 and below that can allow remote code execution.
From the announcement:
An out of bounds write exists in FreeType versions 2.13.0 and below (newer versions of FreeType are not vulnerable) when attempting to parse font subglyph structures related to TrueType GX and variable font files. The vulnerable code assigns a signed short value to an unsigned long and then adds a static value causing it to wrap around and allocate too small of a heap buffer. The code then writes up to 6 signed long integers out of bounds relative to this buffer. This may result in arbitrary code execution. This vulnerability may have been exploited in the wild.
I wonder if I just start making my containers with #AlmaLinux and deploy them on the #Rocky hosts at work that anyone will notice?!

@syntaxseed @Zenie If you install #Incus you can create/run lightweight system containers (or VMs).
So you can use whatever base distro you want and spin up a system container replicating your existing Ubuntu (or whatever) servers.
I like to use #NixOS as my base for pretty much everything these days due to reproducibility, but i still experiment with server software in #Debian or #AlmaLinux system containers.
It's GoToSocial upgrade time. Going from 0.17.3 to 0.18.1. Giving the server a full update as well. AlmaLinux 9 has been a solid OS for GtS with PostgreSQL.
