Today the kickoff meeting of our project course "Telling Data Stories with Semantic Technologies and Generative AI" in collaboration with Academy of Sciences & Literature, Mainz, took place, introducing the general topic and our dedicated course software & research data infrastructure. Stay tuned for news & updates ;-)
Last week, our team member Hossein Beygi Nasrabadi presented our work on BFO-based ontologies for materials science at the European Materials Modeling Council (EMMC) in Vienna. Joint work together with @joerg Kostya Hubaev @enorouzi@heikef and @lysander07
Revolutionizing Financial Data Extraction: The HybridRAG Approach
In an era where financial data complexity challenges even the most advanced AI models, the introduction of HybridRAG promises a breakthrough in information extraction. This innovative technique combin...
In our ISE seminar today our colleague Hossein Beygi Nasrabadi is presenting the current state of the #NFDIMatWerk ontology - MWO. In the beginning, he is introducing two large #materialsscience related projects on digitalisation and research data management: Platform Material Digital (PMD) and NFDI-MatWerk.
Yesterday team members @enorouzi Gunjan Singh and Marzieh Moghaddam presented our teaching offers (ISE lecture, project course and seminars) as well as our research and potential master/bachelor thesis topics at the WiWi Modulcafé at KIT to the new students.
Our 2nd course for this summer semester at KIT ist the project course "Telling data stories with knowledge graphs and generative AI" organised anbd conducted by @tabea@lysander07 and Torsten Schrade from the Academy of Sciences and Literature in Mainz with data resources from @nfdi4culture
We still have free slots in our KIT summer semester 2025 seminar on "Large Language Model-Enhanced Representation Learning for Knowledge Graphs" supervised by @GenAsefa, Mary Ann Tan and @lysander07
Last week, our colleagues @enorouzi Kostya Hubaiev, Hosseing Begyi Nasrabadi and @heikef were attending the NFDI-MatWerk All hands on deck (AHOD) project meeting in Siegburg.
Last week we launched a campaign to highlight research in Vienna by telling our own "research stories", which I gladly would like to highlight again - this time in English :
As professor of Data and Knowledge Engineering at the Vienna University of Economics and Business, I do research in the field of Artificial Intelligence and intelligent data integration with the aim of making the increasingly unmanageable amounts of data usable for both humans *and* machines. As a focus technology we particularly investigate the role #knowledgegraphs in combining symbolic and subsymbolic AI.
Times have become more difficult and darker for research in many countries. Here in Vienna, the conditions for science and research have constantly improved over the last years. I am convinced that this will continue and that the corresponding efforts and support will be even greater in the future. As a member of the Viennese research community, I will actively participate in this endeavour.
Because I like living and researching in Vienna: being originally from Vienna, after several years abroad, roughly 15 years ago I returned and found a new "old" home, with lots of colleagues not only amongst researchers, but also in the public adminstration, in my university and research funding agencies who *care* to improve the conditions for researchers, create new opportunities and networks. Thanks to all these people, it is especially important in times like these to #standtogether for believing in and advancing #science!

We did it! We selected the 61 best students from the overall more than 100 applications. Due to always possible visa issues and other unfortunate circumstances for late cancellations, we've also created a waiting list for potential additional candidates. Congratulations to all of you!! Looking forward to meeting you all in Bertinoro in June!
TOOL: ResearchSpace 4.0.0 is an open-source platform that leverages knowledge graphs to integrate narratives and data, enhancing the contextualization of cultural heritage research. By employing semantic expressions and ontologies like CIDOC CRM, it allows for dynamic and interconnected representations of complex historical information. Could this be the future of digital humanities research?
We are very happy that our colleage @GenAsefa has contributed the chapter on "Neurosymbolic Methods for Dynamic Knowledge Graphs" for the newly published Handbook on Neurosymbolic AI and Knowledge Graphs together with Mehwish Alam and Pierre-Henri Paris.
Greetings from the FIZ Karlsruhe Research Retreat at Königstuhl, above the city of Heidelberg. I had the pleasure to introduce and conduct a Design Thinking session together with 40 brilliant colleagues to work on how to improve our research
Last chance to apply for the International Semantic Web Research Summer School! Dive into research problems about responsible AI with world-class tutors and enthusiastic PhD students for one week located in Bertinoro, in beautiful Emilia Romagna, Italy!
