Went to see Köln 75 at the little indie movie theatre here. I thought it was an interesting thing to have a bilingual movie (English and German) without any subtitles; just expecting the audience to understand both well enough.
It was an enjoyable film. Funny in parts. Some of it is very German. The family dynamic reminded me of the way my father's family would sometimes speak to each other.
And the winner of #MarchMaskness 2025 is… the 3M Aura/Trifold N95/FFP2 with headstraps! Your votes determined that the 3M Aura is the greatest respirator of all!
The 3M Aura ticks the boxes in function, filtration, fit, and fashion. It’s generally e̶a̶s̶y̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶f̶i̶n̶d̶ ̶i̶n̶ ̶s̶m̶a̶l̶l̶e̶r̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶l̶a̶r̶g̶e̶r̶ ̶s̶i̶z̶e̶s̶,̶ available with rubber straps (1870+, 9205+) or braided elastic straps (9210+), with or without valves/vents. It’s comfortable, versatile, and a fine introductory respirator for anyone starting their search for the best respirator for themselves.
In general, the trifold respirator offers good coverage while keeping a low profile. Measurements and features can vary among brands and models, so if the 3M Aura winds up letting you down, you have some solid runners-up to choose from within this category.
Go forth and wear your champion respie with pride!
Covid-Safe Scouts know — the actual best respirator is the one that fits securely and comfortably on your face and has a high filtration rating.
Edit: We regret our error in indicating different sizes of the 3M Aura. We mistakenly conflated the Aura with the 3M VFlex, which has been available in a regular size and small size. The 3M Aura is only available in one size. We apologize for the confusion.
It is sunny out. It is also getting warmer. April in the Northern Hemisphere. Also a bunch of nieces' birthdays are coming up so I went to the drugstore to buy some fun things and send off a small package to the first two. #WednesdaysWeWearMasks and sunglasses. #YallMasking#SaltingTheVibes
@DenisCOVIDinfoguy@auscovid19 a depressing quotation from that long covid article: "The COVID-19 pandemic is over, and HHS will no longer waste billions of taxpayer dollars responding to a nonexistent pandemic that Americans moved on from years ago," HHS Director of Communications Andrew Nixon said in a statement to NBC last week. #Trump and his team are showing who they are. #CovidsNotOver#yallMasking#LongCovid
It’s your cool-ass internet pal modelling her elasto respie headscarf combo, the latest innovation in Covid-avoidant couture. The scarf features hook-and-loop dots to secure it around top head strap of the respirator, eliminating the need for fussy knots and fiddly hair pins. So chic. So safe. So easy.
Went to a birthday party yesterday. Wore a ZimiMask with a SIPvalve. Pluslife test on Thursday (I don't fully trust the SIP valve yet.... did it shift during use? am I unreasonably suspicious?) #YallMasking on the weekends?
ordered some SIP valves 2years ago & haven't used them ever. I've been invited to a friend's birthday party this Saturday. Because I intend to stay #MaskUp , I've installed one of the valves in a ZimiMask. I've tried drinking out of it and it works really well (I suspect the frame inside the mask actually supports the valve where other masks might give). I've also done a DIY fit test (without the cover over the valve) & it passes! Huzzah! #CovidIsNotOver#YallMasking
The hazels are blooming! I know, because after breathing unfiltered outside air for only 20 minutes I want to claw my face off. Instead of giving Big Pharma lots of $$$ for antihistamines and eyedrops, I can just wear my respirator. So I wore my respirator on my walk to the supermarket and inside the supermarket.
Masks are a tool. When indoor air is clean & transmission is low, the need decreases. But right now? Many places lack good ventilation, and COVID-19 is year-round. A well-fitted mask indoors is a no-brainer.
@PhoenixSerenity Oh wow, the pink on white writing on your mask is light and at first I missed that you wrote " COVID KILLED MY DAD" - consolations and that is hard core and you are inspiring.
I wish everyone cared about family and strangers the way you do, and had the courage to act caringly.
Have you voted about masks? Are you debating the features/functions of each N95/FFP2 and defending your faves? Are you excitedly shopping for new respirators to try?
Are you using #MarchMaskness as a way to encourage people to take up masking again to protect themselves against *gestures at everything*
Good conversation with a vendor at the farmers' market this morning, about my mask, their plan to start wearing them again, and the state of *waves hands*
First round of voting starts March 1. Which respirators deserve to make it through to the next round? Which respirator could take it all? Post your predictions. Follow #MarchMaskness to keep up with the excitement.
