We hope the employer can quickly reconsider its approach. We don’t want to take this action, especially when too many UCU members desperately need our support right now. Be assured we remain committed to finding a resolution which can see us calling off any further action and ending our dispute.

After our employer ended Acas talks last week, supported by Unite officials we tried to secure a last minute agreement to bring them back to the table. This could have led to action being paused. Sadly no written proposal was presented for consideration. Threats to our branch officers remain.

With work-related stress absences & casework levels at alarming levels, widespread dysfunction, and too many staff leaving, unable to continue, we need our employer to realise they must work with and not against us if they are to make UCU a place where we are all proud to work.

It turns out the rest of us *can* join a union.

It looks like #UniteTheUnion is the most obvious choice. But I'm new to this.

So… Those of you more knowledgeable than I… Should I join Unite, i.e. the same union my employer recognises? Is there one that’s best for financial services workers? Is there a benefit to picking one over another?

Beyond the ongoing dispute, the restructure comes against a context of cancelled JNCs & safety meetings, refusals to meet outside ACAS & continued breaches of agreed policies, including around fixed-term contracts. Yet suddenly they find the capacity to rejig the deckchairs.

Many members are upset and angry that they found out about changes to their jobs via a document posted on the staff intranet, which shows a complete disregard for staff well-being. We also don’t believe the 30 day consultation period is anywhere near sufficient.

🚨Employer ignores dispute to rush restructure🚨

Instead of focusing on resolving our long-standing dispute over a racist, dysfunctional & toxic workplace, our employer yesterday announced a significant restructure that will impact nearly a quarter of staff, some significantly.

Our employer has confirmed pay will remain frozen as they are “choosing” to not hold pay talks while we remain in dispute over our campaign for a safe & professional workplace. This decision breaches staff employment contracts.

Astounding to find ourselves in a 2nd live dispute.
