Ubuntu Fixes Wi-Fi Connection Fail at Login Screen

Ubuntu users frustrated by the inability to connect to a new password-protected Wi-Fi network at the login screen will be pleased to know a fix is rolling out. This particular bug affects users of both Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and Ubuntu 24.10. When trying to join a wireless network at the login screen (GDM) which requires a password, the password input prompt never appears and the connection fails. Why does—soon to be ‘did’—connecting to a wifi network at the Ubuntu login screen fail? Canonical software engineer (and the original bug reporter) Bartosz Woronicz explains: "The log-in screen [in Ubuntu] is implemented :sys_more_orange:

FreeBSD Friends...

This evening I monkeyed around with getting Wayland/Gnome going on 14.2 in a VM while sitting in front of the TV.

Following the Handbook I must be missing a step.

Wayland + Xwayland is installed (gdm still relies on X? Xwayland enough? Do I need to install X proper?).

Gnome + Gdm is installed.

From a root console command prompt gdm just sits there, no graphics output, doesn't return to the command line.

On a reboot there is a moment of inactivity where nothing is written to the screen but then the console login prompt appears.

I feel like I'm missing something obvious but my scattered brain pan...

Hints or ideas?

To be consistent, the #gdm login screen would also have to follow the light or dark system theme. As I said before, I use light and dark themes based on how bright my surroundings are. And wow, it's super hard to see anything at all outside, in the sun, for example, on the dark #gnome login screen. 🤔 #linux

Gnome / gdm greeter seems to be freezing (on animations) when trying to prompt my password, to reconnect to running session when coming back from screensaver... Debian stable. I'd like to submit bug report or contribute to diagnosis, etc. But where exactly lies the issue / which bts query to perform... gdm ?
Ctrl+Alt+F1 allows to login working around the freez issue, but still not satisfying

A new #Video youtu.be/f57rGhBm3Vk for your #cats on #Debian 12.6 #Server and with #GnomeDesktop 43.9 has been #performance #benchmarked and is ranked 23rd in the #DesktopEnvironment #OperatingSystem #TierList. The bundled #GnomeDesktopEnvironment, #Mutter #WindowManager, and #GDM #DisplayManager all appear to be 1-2 year old versions of the #software. The server performance with 280M Memory Usage, 0 CPU Load, and 1.8G Disk Usage, and 11 second reboot time are not the best.

Since about a week, I have a weird issue with the GDM display manager freezing entirely just after I log in.
The logs are quite shorts, but I'm sure it's related to GDM and not to GNOME, because the issue has disappeared entirely when I switched to LightDM.
Does anybody have an idea of what's going on?
