Gygesringtone<p>O.k. So I've been using Sibelius for a little over two weeks now, having switched from Finale. (Did you know Avid offers a heavily discounted perpetual license for Finale users? They do, you just have to dig to find it)</p><p>Things I love about Sibelius right now: <br>Everything to in the "Review" tab.</p><p>Things I suspect I will enjoy once I get used to them: All the stuff around copying\pasting notes</p><p>Thing I'll be o.k. with once I get used to: not having a floating tool bar that is full of arcane symbols</p><p>Thing I instinctively hate: all the icons in the top ribbon looking like they were designed after the mid 90s.</p><p><a href="https://mefi.social/tags/Sibelius" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Sibelius</span></a> <a href="https://mefi.social/tags/MusicNotation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MusicNotation</span></a> <a href="https://mefi.social/tags/Composition" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Composition</span></a></p>

Since been thinking about a big comparable difference I confronted 20 years ago - when I started studying music late in life. Most of my peers were focused on the ear-and-chords only approach. For a couple of years I held-out against the cumbersomeness of trad <a href="https://climatejustice.social/tags/musicNotation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>musicNotation</span></a>. Kind of equivalent to -- do we discuss stuff by just posting videos of viewpoints with facials and all that, or do we study the text.... That's another long story and I'm just in for a coffee now so....</p>
Gygesringtone<p>From "A Guide to Musical Analysis" by Nicolas Cook:</p><p>"In all these respects, as in others, the ordinary performance score constitutes an informal and rather unsystematic analysis of musical sound, sacrificing detailed representation in the interests of clarity, simplicity and intelligibility." </p><p>Not sure why, but I just know the first draft of this ended with ".. intelligibility, [colleague's name]".</p><p><a href="https://mefi.social/tags/MusicNotation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MusicNotation</span></a> <a href="https://mefi.social/tags/MusicTheory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MusicTheory</span></a> <a href="https://mefi.social/tags/MusicHistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MusicHistory</span></a></p>

Noah T. Carver 👨🏼‍🦯🇺🇦<p>Hello world. Given that I’ve moved servers, it’s time for an <a href="https://caneandable.social/tags/introduction" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>introduction</span></a>. I’m Noah, a 21-year-old <a href="https://caneandable.social/tags/Blind" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Blind</span></a> vocalist, skier and <a href="https://caneandable.social/tags/accessibility" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>accessibility</span></a> enthusiast. I am a rising third-year at Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York pursuing a Bachelor of Music in vocal performance, but I am currently taking an academic leave of absence for training at the Louisiana Center for the Blind. I am also privileged to serve on the board of <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://nfb.social/@Students" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>Students</span></a></span>, a proud division of <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://nfb.social/@nationsblind" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>nationsblind</span></a></span>. However, this is a personal account. The views expressed are my own and not those of any institution, organization, employer, etc., and follows, reblogs, and favorites are not endorsements. Given my studies, I am also a huge supporter of <a href="https://caneandable.social/tags/Braille" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Braille</span></a> &amp; <a href="https://caneandable.social/tags/MusicBraille" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MusicBraille</span></a> availability as well as digital <a href="https://caneandable.social/tags/MusicNotation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MusicNotation</span></a> software accessibility in the hope that blind musicians will have greater access to music literacy at parity with their sighted colleagues. <a href="https://caneandable.social/tags/BrailleRocks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BrailleRocks</span></a>, y’all. When I’m not working, I enjoy great music of all kinds (seriously, my Spotify is chaos), an interesting book, good company, a probably slightly unhealthy amount of YouTube, and a hot cup of decaf coffee or tea (I’m sadly sensitive to caffeine).</p>
Slackademic<p>Can't get the hook from Gild the Lily out of my head -- a pleasure as far as earworms go -- but I figured I'd jot it down over lunch, to see if that helps me move on.
