Nemo_bis 🌈<p>It took ten years, but HAL has started implementing a part of it (<a href="https://www.ccsd.cnrs.fr/en/2023/12/hal-s-new-service-deposit-suggestions-for-automatic-import-of-open-access-publications/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">ccsd.cnrs.fr/en/2023/12/hal-s-</span><span class="invisible">new-service-deposit-suggestions-for-automatic-import-of-open-access-publications/</span></a> ). Unlike <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mamot.fr/@pintoch" class="u-url mention">@<span>pintoch</span></a></span> (<a href="https://antonin.delpeuch.eu/posts/retrospective-of-dissemin-and-thoughts-on-the-open-access-movement/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">antonin.delpeuch.eu/posts/retr</span><span class="invisible">ospective-of-dissemin-and-thoughts-on-the-open-access-movement/</span></a> ), I consider this a success for Dissemin.</p><p>But we need more. Every repository should do it, but given the effort it&#39;s more realistically done by consortial, national or international bodies. Some parts of the service, like <a href="https://mamot.fr/tags/OpenAlex" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>OpenAlex</span></a> / <a href="https://mamot.fr/tags/Unpaywall" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Unpaywall</span></a> and <a href="https://mamot.fr/tags/InternetArchiveScholar" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>InternetArchiveScholar</span></a>, are so expensive we can probably afford just one to be shared by all global users.</p>
Nemo_bis 🌈<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://tiny.tilde.website/@vilmibm" class="u-url mention">@<span>vilmibm</span></a></span> Thanks! I had somehow missed the memo that fatcat has moved under the same domain as the <a href="https://mamot.fr/tags/InternetArchiveScholar" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>InternetArchiveScholar</span></a> (and the v0 API has been deprecated? lazy me still using it). :)</p>
Nemo_bis 🌈<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://wikis.world/@samwilson" class="u-url mention">@<span>samwilson</span></a></span> I don&#39;t mind the collections being inaccessible for a few weeks. After all, copyright forces us to keep most collections inaccessible for over a century anyway. I&#39;m more worried about the stressed and stretched IA staff. Months spent on firefighting will eat on current projects and potentially cause long-term burnouts. Think <a href="https://mamot.fr/tags/InternetArchiveScholar" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>InternetArchiveScholar</span></a> for example, an extremely powerful service for <a href="https://mamot.fr/tags/OpenScience" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>OpenScience</span></a>. As the grant money ended, we can&#39;t expect IA to subsidise it much.</p><p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@egonw" class="u-url mention">@<span>egonw</span></a></span></p>

Nemo_bis 🌈<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.online/@hildabast" class="u-url mention">@<span>hildabast</span></a></span> Thank you! I&#39;m not sure I understand why <a href="https://mamot.fr/tags/InternetArchiveScholar" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>InternetArchiveScholar</span></a> was summarily dismissed as being too small. Nowadays I use it as my primary academic search engine, for two reasons: 1) it tends to have more <a href="https://mamot.fr/tags/OpenAccess" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>OpenAccess</span></a> / full text links than anything else; 2) advanced search actually works and results are generally more consistent and reliable.</p><p>If I fail to find anything, I proceed to check <a href="https://mamot.fr/tags/GoogleScholar" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>GoogleScholar</span></a>, where typically I then have to browse dozens of pages of unrelated junk.</p>
