It's clear the WordPress world needs a change. So I wrote a post about exactly that:
Breaking the Status Quo: A vision for a new WordPress era
@joost Thanks. After the break I'd like to read a third post outlining how to fund the proposals in the previous post https://joost.blog/wordpress-roadmap/ , i.e. a revamp of #Wordpress core and a more energetic management of the plugin ecosystem. They both sound like massive investments.
We've been discussing for over a decade in #MediaWiki https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Requests_for_comment/MediaWiki_Foundation but still almost nobody pays for core except the Wikimedia Foundation donors. Wordpress doesn't have a Wikipedia to milk for cash...
@nemobis @joost Personally as an ex lawyer knowing well that no outcomes are certain or guaranteed & legal fights are expensive if I was WPE I would take this opportunity to come in as the WP saviour & fund a new .org replacement & the governance structure immediately & make all the legal problems meaningless for the future - Can then argue in court for years about past damages if Matt wants but future business secure
