More help needed please!
This time I'm looking for email suggestions.
I should have got rid of Gmail a long time ago, but their latest update has prompted me to get on with it.

Suggestions please?

@Sarahw Jumping onto this thread because I am also in need of similar advice (for my Gmails but also for "I am getting old and I should probably move family and friends off my self-hosting to something else before I actually do pop my clogs" considerations.)

Can I suggest this thread to you? → mamot.fr/@homlett/114150299064 Feel free to ask if you have further questions. :)

@homlett @zimpenfish
Thankyou. I'm still not decided, but Tuta looks good.

@zimpenfish
What are your thoughts, have you decided yet?

@Sarahw Sadly not - Tuta seems popular (although you need the pricey plan to import your old email) but without IMAP, it's a non-starter for me (and probably some of the family too.) Proton are a bit weird with their "Republicans will rein in big tech!" stance and their family plan isn't great - £25/month for 6 users and only 3 domains. Going to have a look at Fastmail tomorrow.

@zimpenfish
I don't even know what IMAP means!
Proton is a no goer. Where are you based?

@Sarahw Oh, IMAP is the way your mail client fetches from the server. At least for most normal servers. (POP3 was the old clunky way but I think most places have turned that off by now.)

I think everyone using my email currently is in the UK.

@zimpenfish
I see, although not really 🙂
I understand what you're saying but I don't understand what impact this has on sending/receiving email?
My emails are mostly within France, maybe ⅓ UK?

@Sarahw With Tuta, you can only read mail with their apps. Don't think they can even give you webmail access. Not a problem if you're ok with that but for me, I need access to my mailboxes outside of a specific provider's phone or desktop app.

@zimpenfish
That's useful. Same goes for me, I need access on a pc as well as my phone.
