Heading home to Seattle from #srecon. Between booking the late flight and a bunch of delays, I'm starting to think that driving would have been faster.

Some great #SRE war stories have been told this week at #srecon. Two of the most compelling were told by #Bluesky and #Squarespace engineers, as detailed here. #postmortem #googledomains #incidentpostmortem #projectpostmortem

My second report from #SREcon: Some of the same lessons -- and unsolved problems -- from supporting #machinelearning apps in production carry over to #generativeAI apps, but not all. Attendees discussed the similarities and important differences. #reliabilityengineering #ML #GenAI #LLM #AI #MLOps #LLMOps https://www.techtarget.com/searchitoperations/news/366621071/Site-Reliability-Engineers-weigh-MLOps-vs-LLMOps
Also A+ to #srecon venue for easily accessible sunshine and fresh air area.
First dispatch from #SREcon, covering some interesting discussions about how supporting #LLM-based apps in production differs from traditional apps. Features a presentation by Brendan Burns about lessons learned from rolling out #Azure #Copilot.

Anybody I know here up for a meet up at #SRECon?
Tables and power strips for general sessions at #srecon. YES. A++.
So this is interesting- the venue for #srecon this week is right next to the 49ers stadium. Also, I am definitely NOT in Boston anymore...
On board my plane for #srecon watching people board and wondering how many are headed to SREcon.
Okay, my suitcase is packed, almost ready to leave for #SREcon. Just one little problem: someone knows that Things Are Afoot.
He keeps following me around and crying. He knows what suitcases mean, and he is Not A Fan.
There. My #SREcon talk is ready. A month later than I'd wanted, but still over 36h before I'm scheduled to talk. Lots of time for last-minute tweaks and rehearsals.
cannot wait to deliver my lightning talk at #SRECon this spring
"What Real Housewives Taught Me About Postmortems"
I'm speaking at #SREcon in Santa Clara this March! Come learn how Let's Encrypt issues millions of certificates with just a handful of staff and servers! https://www.usenix.org/conference/srecon25americas/presentation/mcpherrin

Improving the SRE Experience for 10y as a Free, Open, and Automated CA

Technical Debt as Theory Building and Practice - @yvonnezlam
(I have a feeling this is a talk I'll be referencing and recommending for a long while!)
"I will examine the connections between technical debt, housework/carework, and infrastructure in order to talk through strategies for understanding the shape of your technical debt, picking pieces to pay down, and building narratives with conceptual integrity around technical debt."

OpenTelemetry Semantic Conventions and How to Avoid Broken Observability
tbh I think the semantic conventions are the biggest win and likely most enduring impact of OTel and it's great to see a talk about the benefits AND the bumpy experience of adopting standards that are still evolving.

this is just a smol sample of the great sessions, highly recommend checking out the full program https://www.usenix.org/conference/srecon25americas/program
#SRECon wants a headshot to go with my talk. My usual social media picture is from 2010 or so and has me hiding behind a camera. Which, admittedly, is a common enough sight, but I don't think that's what the conference organizers want to put in their program.
Under normal circumstances, I'd just go to the family photographer for a headshot, but (a) that's me and (b) I'm terrible at self portraits.
Could I get a few opinions on this one? Too grim? Too out-of-focus? Too much cat fur?
A watched #srecon talk proposal never boils.
Oh hey, my SREcon talk is up :D
