I guess #matrix is really just the protocol but I wish the services built on it would enable channels and some of the other nice features of discord. user interface etc.
Quick heads up, our bridge bots on the Matrix side are continuing to get banned for an unknown reason. Therefore some channels on Matrix are no longer bridging.
IRC, Discord and Telegram remain unaffected, we will continue looking into possible solutions for the time being.
Saying Matrix is bad because the Mossad created it is like saying SELinux and AES encryption is bad because the NSA created it or saying water is bad because Hitler drank water.
They have their flaws but saying something is bad because a bad actor used it is crazy imo
I'm not defending Matrix, it's E2EE implementation is flawed UX-wise and the community LOVES drama and bikeshedding, but holy crap #matrix#conduwuit#wtf
I hear from a lot of people that app overload puts them off using apps for decentralised networks like jabber, the fediverse, matrix, and nostr. What if they could install apps for all these networks, but redirect notifications from them into one? So they could check all their messages in their preferred messaging app, and tapping on a message from another app would open that app at that message.
Good news for existing users: Continuwuity is a drop-in replacement! Just swap the binary/Docker image. Conduwuit still runs but isn't updated; Continuwuity is the path forward.
I had an epiphany last night about something in the nginx config and after sorting that, all the optional XEP listed also pass!
Now to convince wife and kids to use it for our group chat... they really don't want to install any more apps, because I'm "being difficult" because they already use whatsapp
The main reason I'm impressed with it over matrix, is reliable notifications. It just works. So far, anyway.
Thank you to the people that replied to my post last week suggesting I try xmpp after the matrix server we used shut down. I had written it off as an old platform for nerds, but it's... actually really good

Планирую деактивировать все аккаунты на своём сервере (трое в лодке, не считая меня) после быстрого опроса юзеров, так как хостить дендрит ваще неприкольно, особенно пока в нём нет simplified sync и пока он жрёт больше синапса.
В те же чаты вряд ли вернусь, я там не особо нужен, и в матрицу редко захожу.
Cool. I just tested #ElementX with a fresh #matrix.org account, and what shall I say: Not a single thing works flawlessly. Not even starting a simple 1:1 chat with another user works without major quirks (initial message is missing and never shows up; Element X doesn't find the DM room and starts a second room when trying to verify the other user).
