Many libraries in metro areas in the Southwestern US have:

Citizen Science Kits
Stuff-braries (knitting looms, knitting kits, gardening kits, bakeware, tools, hiking gear, etc)
Seed Libraries
Maker spaces (sewing machines, laser cutters, podcast studios, music/sound equipment
Free online learning databases
Free Streaming Video Services
Free music streaming services
And, of course, books, magazines, DVDs and CDs.

These are all great for reducing consumption, continuing education, and a host of other activities.

But, if we don't use them, we lose them, so please get a library card and use it. Buy or donate books to/from a Friends program (the non-profit arm of the library that gathers funding and resources for many programs).

Librarians, oh please convince your boards to use the Palace Project instead of #Libby / #OverDrive! It is a far better experience and just all the chef's kisses, and it appears to treat libraries better too! I'm subscribed to 9 non-resident libraries and none of them use this! Here's a sample page. market.thepalaceproject.org/it #Library #Libraries #Librarian #PalaceProject #ThePalaceProject

Tonight's movie is an underrated gem. The Librarian: Quest for the Spear (2004) is a funny, campy adventure movie with an Indiana Jones feel to it. It launched a trilogy of movies and a TV series. All 3 movies are free to stream on Tubi.

Stars Noah Wyle, Sonya Walger, Bob Newhart, Kyle MacLachlan, Kelly Hu, Jane Curtin, & Olympia Dukakis.

Directed by Peter Winther.

Music by Joseph LoDuca, who also composed the music for these movies; Chucky, Evil Dead, and Boogeyman movies; Xena: Warrior Princess, Brotherhood of the Wolf, and over 100 others.

Today in #metadata #librarian work: programming a fix for a grand fuck up. Some idiot put Canada BY ITESELF in the 410 of the authority record for "Canada. Commission on the Law of Insanity as a Defence in Criminal Cases." EVERY bibliographic record heading starting with Canada got "corrected" by the job and needs to be rolled back. Do you realize how many Canadian gov docs there are?? Dick move, intended or not. Oh, and maybe cataloging a few rush titles. @librarians

Today in #metadata #librarian work: a shift answering help tickets from users having troubles accessing e-resources, some meetings, weekly authorities maintenance, checking in on a web archiving crawl of NIH classification tables, talking colleagues off of the ledge as our vendors increasingly lock in the oligopoly, force AI "enhanced" cataloging, and violate their license terms on perpetual access to e-books. #libraries #cataloging

More uspol stuff in nonspecifics

Thinking about all my IL #librarian friends in #academia right now trying to explain how dot gov is maybe not the cats pajamas any more.
Heard more NIH and NSF junk going on from my favorite professor on campus. She is an oceanographer that thinks diverse humans working to understand the climate is good, so you can see how that would be a problem. Anyway, she rewrote her NSF project abstracts and stuff so they wouldn't just be deleted per the grant manager
