Oui vous trouverez pas ce type d'avis sur ce garde-boue, mais perso, c'est pas durable de base.
Maintenant ça tient bien! Même si c'est drôle.

Time to replace my keychain lanyard.
Thanks to the Ashley Book of Knots, I can make a new one. I don't do this often enough to have the knot memorized.
I haven't decided yet whether to trim the end or not. You can always cut later but you can't undo a cut once made.

I'm guessing that it doesn't make a lot of difference in the end. Tying up on the loop takes less rope, but your way has more mechanical advantage (if the rope slides easy) I think.
I use an inexpensive "breakable link" (for chain) in situations where I know I'll be pulling hard against a rope as if it's a pulley. There are fancy versions of this called "shocks" used on small sailboats (second photo) but they cost 5-10x as much!

I've never heard the first part referred to as a "slippery half hitch", but the name fits!

My lanyard had served me well but it's time to retire it. These things seem to last about 15 years for me. My dad made my first one when I was a young teen. I made its replacement which is now a frayed knot.
Should I go with white, or find some more green 550 cord? I haven't bought any in decades. The stuff lasts...

Had a fabulous time last night running a "Numbers, Knots and Navigation" workshop here in #NWales. We explored lots of bits and bobs (roamers and grid references etc) and then focused in on making #paracord pacer bead sets. The idea is you work out your average paces per 100 meters and then use these sliding beads to keep a tally. Useful for navigation on bearing in poor visibility.
