Did anyone have a CD audio player back in the day that featured CD+G video output?
I got my first CD player in 1985, a Pioneer PD-5010 which had CD+G output, but I never had the cable and didn't have the tech sense to search for it beyond just the local Circuit City.
I never saw the visuals.

Swapped the very old Magnepan MGIIIa speakers back in. They are over 30 years old and though I bought some decent high end “box” speakers a while back I simply miss the sound of the Maggies. One of the mid/bass panels needs to have some adhesive work/repair as it will occasionally buzz, but nothing compares to the immersive sound, huge soundstage and quickness of these big panels and the ribbon tweeters. Particularly for jazz when recorded well.
What isn't understood by way too many is how these tariffs deeply hurt lots of American manufacturing in the here and now. Post by the head of Manley Labs, a maker of high end hi-fi and pro audio gear, that assembles all its products in California - detailing how a huge order they had custom made for a Chinese buyer is getting canceled due to the tariffs that were just enacted. And it seems this trade war just started. #politics #tariffs #trump #maga #trade #china #hifi #audio #manufacturing

A sound idea: Europe's vinyl junkies embrace the Listening Bar.
More and more audiophiles are flocking to bars that have invested in top end equipment and a focus on vinyl.
Euronews Culture speaks to the man who brought the phenomenon to Europe.
Assumed this was a spade terminal to earth and broke it off the power transformer. I think this is a ring lug thermistor? I get 120ohm across the two wires at room temp. Any idea what the nominal value might be? The markings E2 75, maybe 7.5kOhm?
Amp goes into protection mode without it so I've put a 2kOhm resistor in its place which lets it power on but the speakers are very quiet now. Could it be winding back the power in response to temperature? #hifi #electronics
Isn’t it funny how we grew up with stereos—left and right channels, all that—only to end up in a world where most people opt for a single stylish, wireless mono speaker? I’m not saying modern portable speakers don’t sound great—they do. But it’s curious how the masses just stopped caring about stereo sound? #hifi #music
Of all the various CD variations (Blu spec CD ,XRCD,HDCD, SACD etc) this one clearly passed me by... LPCD.
Some quite analogue thinking going on with this one. #CompactDisc #HiFi ##CD #LPCD http://www.yanglining.com/lpcd_mastering.html
Audio #Downmixer stuff. The cheap Amazon products are either limited at 6.1 (if not a lie, then 5.1) or break down easily. This ia a bit of a niche product line as the majority either uses a soundbar or some home theater thing, but if you need it then the only chance is to go for a professional grade device like #Muxlab #500439
There is another one capable of doing the proper downgrade but that's even pricier.
My son is struggling with hand-me-down stereo equipment I gave him. He's learning as he goes though! Better yet, he's listening.
What are my odds of finding a replacement balance pot to replace the broken one on the left? #hifi #electronics
Wow what took Apple so long to add Lossless support to AirPods Max?! Better late than never I guess.
I’m content with my hi-fi setup though so doubt I’ll ever buy the AirPods Max. https://daught.me/blog/2021/audiophile-headphones/

Just picked up a Kenwood KR-6400 (with Real Simulated Woodgrain™ side panels!) at Value Village for $13.99! Turns on, but just hooked it up and got no output. I imagine it just needs a new fuse (or fuses), but either way, not a bad find at all. I've been wanting to start making up for lost time and brushing up my electronics chops, so a mid-70s stereo is probably a decent place to start.
It's not in immaculate condition, but I'm not really bothered by that. Still quite a handsome unit, and definitely of greater provenance than my dad's old Koren Audio Reflex receiver (not nearly as much power though lol).
