Sad news: "Dry Bones" cartoonist Yaakov Kirschen has died.

jns.org/dry-bones-cartoonist-y

I first encountered Kirschen through his "Mom and Me" and "Murray and Me" graphical chatbot programs (received from my uncle Jim when he handed down his Atari ST to us in the late 1980s).

Kirschen's work on "Mom" and "Murray" was profiled in-depth by the NYT, LAT, and others.

Amid the AI craze of the 1980s, Kirschen promoted the concepts of "artificial creativity" and "artificial personality" instead of "artificial intelligence".

He was an innovative thinker, and ahead of his time.

I'm thankful to have known him, and to have helped preserve a small part of his legacy.

Sometimes, I just love to dig into really old games. Here's 1983s "Ms. Pac-Man" from Atarisoft. The game came on a double-density, single-sided 5.25inch disk of 160K. But when you tried to look into it from DOS, it just seem completely empty, because it's a "Booter" without a file system. Interestingly, this one doesn't seem to be copy-protected at all.

Fun in the olden times, here's an archive of what was on umich.edu's FTP server, under atari:

PDF file is a reasonable view of the enormous text file index, except it doesn't list the 8bit stuff (which is in the zip).

Wow, I remembered arc/lzh, but forgot about .zoo archives. I have no way to read these now, except to put them in Hatari's folder and unzoo from the ST. I don't remember msa at all.
