#Introduction time! This is the official account for the YYC Dyke and Trans March located on Niitsítpiis-stahkoii (Blackfoot / Niitsítapi), Ĩyãħé Nakón mąkóce (Stoney), Michif Piyii (Métis), Ktunaxa ɁamakɁis, and Tsuut’ina land.

This march has been active for over a decade. It is joyful resistance, uniting our community to continue pushing for protections, safety, and happiness, while also reminding us that we are not alone in this struggle. We welcome anyone who would march with us.

In 2025, anti-trans legislation is expected to take effect August 30th, the day of this march. This legislation cruelly and unfairly targets trans and queer experiences, particularly those of trans-youth. This transphobic government wants to legislate us back into the closet. We won't let them.

Join us in our rally cry for respect and safety! Stand up for Queer Rights in Alberta!

This may be the last day of our extended cool / wettish period (mostly below 20C/68F days, nights mostly below 10C/50F- sometimes not far above freezing + lots of rain) for most of July, at least. I'm happy with this, but farmers probably want a bit of warmer drier weather for ripening crops and getting more hay harvested (many managed, surprisingly enough). Starting tomorrow is a heatwave 😉 4 days from 25-27C 77-81F with nights 9-13C 48-55F. After tonight no rain till Friday #weather #Alberta

@TheyOfHIShirts I came across your proposal (Does anyone else have this same wild idea?)

I’m on the board of The #Alberta #Library and maybe we could make this happen.

I will keep searching for examples, but if you know of any please let me know.

Hey #yeg #edmonton #alberta, if you can toss a few bucks towards a #TransWoman who got struck by lightning the other day, that'd be cool of you

(She's expected to make a full recovery but her partner is going to have trouble due to her lost income during this time. News article is linked in replies for posterity.)

A point made in this article, albeit not strongly enough, is that Parks Canada has been doing fire mitigation work around the townsite for over 20 years. What is clear though, is they should have also pushed harder on FireSmart measures in the townsite. I know there was a lot of FireSmart work around various cabins south of town it seems less so in town.

CBCJasper bolsters fire resiliency standards after devastating 2024 wildfire | CBC NewsThe Municipality of Jasper and Parks Canada are taking firmer measures to protect the park from wildfires, after the Jasper Wildfire Complex destroyed 30 per cent of the townsite in July 2024.

#Edmonton: A 21-yr-old woman was standing under a tree in Callingwood South, and a lightning bolt hit the tree and seems to have arched to hit her, causing a cardiac arrest.

She also has burns up her abdomen and across her shoulder where a sweater she was wearing was singed and burned away.

She is presently in ICU.

We did a #road and #rail #trip from #Saskatchewan through #Alberta to #BritishColumbia, it was 4,761 km. Or Lisbon to Vienna to Stockholm. #Canada is an amazing country because you can travel to so many amazing #nations and #experience so many #cultures within it.
