Monasterium Gemeticensis) in Jumièges im Département Seine-Maritime war eine Benediktinerabtei und bis zu den Religionskriegen eines der größten Klöster Frankreichs. AlexisCOMPLIES LECTURELe Nom de la Rose d’Umberto Eco, dans une vieille édition de poche trouvée en boîte à livre. Il a bien fallu un mois pour finir le bouquin, il est gros (cette édition fait presque 630 pages) et j’ai beaucoup perdu en rythme de lecture. Et encore j’ai survolé rapidement certains passages de digressions théologiques. Mais quel livre, quelle histoire !L’histoire on la connaît. 1327, à l’époque de nos Rois Maudits ( et du fameux pape Jean XXII) une négociation entre branches de la chrétienté doit se tenir dans une abbaye du Nord de l’Italie. Le premier arrivé des négociateurs, Guillaume de Baskerville, accompagné du novice Adso, est très intéressé par la bibliothèque de l’abbaye, cachée dans un impressionnant donjon. Mais très vite, de nombreux moines meurent dans des conditions atroces, et Baskerville va avoir 7 jours pour mener l’enquête, qui le mènera encore et toujours dans les secrets de la bibliothèque. En plus des moines, surtout l’intransigeant doyen Jorge, l’abbé, les servants, cette bibliothèque est un personnage à part entière du livre, et laisse planer sur le séjour de Baskerville une atmosphère sombre, dans une époque médiévale dont on ne sait pas si Eco nous la raconte dans sa réalité ou dans un vieux fantasme de « l’âge sombre ». Rassurez-vous les amis, il vous reste une vingtaine d’années avant la Peste.J’avais vu le film de Jean-Jacques Annaud (1986) il y a une éternité. Mais je m’en souviens assez pour constater des différences intéressantes entre le livre et son adaptation.
