Spent this morning at Wellingborough Eco Group's #RepairCafe. Didnt do anything particularly helpful myself. Several items were fixed, others were going away to order replacement parts which they'll then return with and have fitted, and a steam iron was declared broken beyond repair.

Today I got up early and went to my first #repaircafe

Thanks to engineer Paul, after decades (because I don't mess with what I don't understand) this electric clock is functional.

He advised me to buy some new flex for safety reasons- I ordered replica fabric-covered cable in dark brown - and next time he'll replace the power cord. It'll be safe to use :)

I was happy to donate to keep the repair cafe going.

Viel zu oft werden Dinge viel zu schnell entsorgt. Ob der Toaster streikt, das Radio rauscht oder die Stehlampe dunkel bleibt – oft muss nur eine Kleinigkeit gerichtet werden.Repair Cafés bieten Hilfe zur Selbsthilfe – und das in Köln an vielen Orten und zu vielen Zeiten.

Alle folgenden Angebote sind gegen Spende nutzbar, nur Ersatzteile müssen bezahlt werden.Die Reparaturhelfer*innen arbeiten ehrenamtlich und freuen sich über einen Beitrag.

Eben im #repaircafe #chemnitz gewesen. Bin absolut begeistert, nicht nur weil der Kabelbruch im #Staubsauger im Nullkommanix repariert war, sondern v.a. wegen der netten Leute. Anscheinend alles Elektriker-Rentner, aber eben solche, die nicht nur mit Volt und Watt, sondern auch mit Menschen können - und wollen. Werde die Truppe ab jetzt überall bewerben, von sowas müsste es viel mehr geben!

#Canada - How a #ScarboroughOntario couple is building community, one repair at a time

"Once a month, volunteers gather in a Scarborough, Ont., community centre to fix broken appliances, bicycles, housewares and computers and mend torn clothing – all for free. The Mid-Scarborough Hub Repair Café was launched 18 months ago by Krissan Veerasingam and Fizza Khalid, a couple on a mission to make Scarborough a kinder, greener place.

They both have day jobs – Mr. Veerasingam is a software developer, Ms. Khalid is a health and safety adviser – but volunteering is a big part of their lives. They founded the Scarborough Environmental Association (SEA), a non-profit organization that hosts events like pollinator plant giveaways, clothing swaps, sewing workshops and park clean-ups. The Repair Café is a key SEA initiative, focused on supporting low-income and historically disenfranchised communities. (Repair Cafés originated in Amsterdam in 2009 and there are now more than 3500 of them around the world.)"
