I've just released the notes I've been taking for months about #MobileLinux here on #Lemmy
Feel free to check it out if you are working for a better #LinuxMobile experience ! Or if you are just curious

Wow I've never seen this before! Usually the whole shell just freezes up or something unless I quickly SSH and kill or something. Definitely an improvement
It would be really nice if @phosh added a pocket detection feature using the proximity sensor. I disabled the PIN login but now it seems to randomly unlock and respond to garbage input in my pocket. I'm not sure what is causing it to randomly wake either, but checking the proximity sensor before allowing a swipe unlock seems like a good idea.
Switching #libqmi from gtk-doc to #gidocgen makes doc generation almost 5 times faster and it's less manual work when adding new #qmi services or messages. Hopefully we can land this. https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mobile-broadband/libqmi/-/merge_requests/409

There is lots of good stuff. Look at for example #LinuxMobile #Phosh #PinePhone #Librem5 @linmob @phosh
Phosh 0.46.0 brings customization, UI improvements to the mobile Linux user interface
Phosh is a user interface designed for smartphones running Linux-based operating systems. First developed by Purism for the Librem 5 smartphone, it’s now available for a wide range of devices and works with most major Linux distributions.
While Phosh has long had many of the core features you’d expect from a smartphone user interface, it’s still a little rough around the edges compared with […]
As part of or work on #Cellbroadcast we've documented our current test setup: https://codeberg.org/Phosh/gsm-cell-testing using #osmocom for the mobile network parts and #ansible for deploying #ModemManager on the devices, performing the tests and checking the results.
Thanks to @NGIZero for supporting our work on this.
I just can't go back to #Phosh after trying #GNOMEMobile!
Weekly GNU-like #MobileLinux Update (14/2025): Wallpapered Lockscreens
I'd like to understand how Android handles some QMI bits and found tooling by @joelselvaraj for that on the @postmarketOS wiki (https://wiki.postmarketos.org/wiki/Qualcomm_Modem_Debugging). That needs a patched Android kernel, so I took some notes how I got that to work on a Pixel 3a. Just in case this is useful to others: https://honk.sigxcpu.org/con/Booting_an_Android_custom_kernel_on_a_Pixel_3a_for_QMI_debugging.html
@nippon Hello,
Personally, I use my PinePhone Pro as my only smartphone, and it's completely satisfactory (except for the low battery life).
I'm running Manjaro Linux with phosh and all the available apps (thanks in part to WayDroid).
Sincerely, Pierre.

Weekly GNU-like #MobileLinux Update (13/2025): Crossing Platforms, Breaking Barriers
The small N900 screen was good, since a resistive-screen stylus controlled all those linux app buttons so easily. No finger-width spacing! The stylus was simple plastic, easy to replace.

I read makers saying they don't want to make room for a stylus, but honestly I would be willing to hold mine on with a rubberband, to get that level of touch-screen control again.
Dear distro maintainers and "i build my own stuff" people:
In case you want to check out 0.46 relesae upfront: we've tagged the first releases candidates (0.46~rc1) of #phosh and related components today.
Release is planned 2025-03-31 (https://gitlab.gnome.org/World/Phosh/phosh/-/wikis/Releases)
The bulk of the changes landed already so hopefully it's only bugfixes from here on.
In preparation for the upcoming phosh release we've released new versions of #gmobile 0.2.0 and #feedbackd 0.8.0. Feedbackd is now more flexible regarding haptic feedback for events so if e.g. feedback is too intrusive (or too weak) you can consider submitting adjustment for your device to https://source.puri.sm/Librem5/feedbackd-device-themes/
