The ONS is struggling to account for prices at the checkout that are reduced by loyalty schemes such as Tesco Clubcard;

this matters because if such data had been included (as ONS has done for one month last year) Consumer Price Inflation would have been 2.8% not the reported 3.1%.

I am sceptical that the BoE really shapes its policy on the basis of headline rates of inflation, but still this overstatement may have impacted interest rate decisions!

I just got home from my main grocery shopping day for the month. I hate to grocery shop so I have a tendency to buy a lot at the beginning of the month.

I'm in Vegas & so far my Kroger affiliated store, Smith's, has not gone crazy with price increases. They have started offering many BOGO deals, from chips to pkgs of meat/poultry

This time I bought shelf stable food (rice, dry beans, canned soup). I bought things I don't need now (coffee, bulk toilet paper, bulk Kleenex)
