@vsoch my first Salishan was after my first summer at LANL. Five of us grad students were selected (not sure by what criteria) to attend. I didn't go again until 17 years later, when I attended on behalf of the ASC HQ feds who couldn't make it. Salishan is not the only "clubby" #HPC event (hello ISC & SC).

This kind of event does not need to exist. I reject such regular initiative to create disparity of information for career advantage to a select few. I reject those that use their power to choose who is worthy to participate in that.
We need to do better, #HPC.
I am at the Salishan #HPC conference this week and it’s made me realize how far my career is drifting from the world of scientific computing.
As slides become public on salishan.ahsc-nm.org/program.html, I’ll opine on some of the things I’ve seen.

I used helm charts https://github.com/converged-computing/flux-apps-helm. This mean I can use common base templates for the Flux MiniCluster (provided by the Flux Operator) and for each #HPC app I just need to expose the parameters in a template. See how simple it is for the user?
After an initial study with a lot of manual orchestration to run #HPC apps in Kubernetes, I've redesigned the entire orchestration to be done with helm charts, and the experience is so pleasant!
