Survey work with Dartmoor Tinworking Research Group at Norsworthy
Volunteers surveying this once prolific tin mill, evidenced by the number of discarded mould stones (very hard blocks of granite) used to crush ore under stamps driven by a water wheel powered by the adjacent river. Indents show how many stamps were in use (2) with multiple indents from reuse.
Survey carried out using plane table and alidade, a cheap and simple, though time-consuming, method.

Merrivale Ceremonial Centre, Dartmoor
Menhir of 3.1m, part of a wonderfully preserved complex including two double stone rows, stone circles and burial cairns. The menhir stands apart from most of the site in a small group consisting of a 3-stone row (once 5), two cairns and a stone circle. A medieval road runs between the ceremonial centre and a prehistoric village downhill.
