After a 10-year hiatus, I’m back to using RSS to follow news and blogs. It feels so calm and decluttered ☺️

But the fear of missing out is real! What blogs would you recommend for someone interested in

✊ Digital rights, activism & privacy
🌱 Offline-first and local computing
💻 General tech trends
🛠️ Hacking devices to improve them
🥰 Mental health & work-life balance
🙌 Good news

I would be grateful if you boosted this to help me discover more blogs!

Wow great blog, thanks for sharing! Their posts really resonate with me 🎯

@jplatte @mitsuhiko

@thibaultamartin I like "Rest of World" in my RSS feed: https://restofworld.org/. I don't always read everything that comes through, but it's a nice source of news and trends that you usually wouldn't be able to read in english.
Rest of WorldRest of WorldWe’re a global nonprofit publication covering the impact of technology beyond the Western bubble.

@tadzik their website looks like an overwhelming mess, but their feed looks great. Subscribed! Thanks for sharing!

Yup that indeed was a very good suggestion, thanks again @tadzik

@thibaultamartin I don't always agree w/ him (specifically when it comes to PL design), but maybe that's all the more reason to follow Drew DeVault's blog. Lately has been more about politics in and around open source anyways, hence should fit your list: drewdevault.com/

@ujeenator currently using Inoreader both as a service and as an app. It’s fine-ish, but I’ll likely move on to a more native app after taking the time to evaluate alternatives.

I used to love Reeder back in the days, but Reeder 5 “classic” doesn’t work for me.

@thibaultamartin @ujeenator shoutout for Aggregator on Android, which is completely local and just works

@axeleroy thanks for the list, I’ll definitely add a few to mine!

@beaufils at the moment Inoreader (both the service and the app) but I’m thinking of migrating to miniflux + Lire and maybe newsboat

@linc solid recommendations here, thanks a bunch

@thibaultamartin alors @404mediaco (ils ont un flux RSS avec lien pour les abo)

et sinon, juste pour partage mastodon.neilzone.co.uk/@neil/, peut être que ça donnera d'autres pistes :)

@thibaultamartin Same actually. Not sure if these quite fit the bill but I am following:

citationneeded.news/rss/ - mostly crypto-critical news but some other general tech/news stuff @molly0xfff

pluralistic.net/feed/ - general reporting about capitalism, tech, etc. @pluralistic

fediversereport.com/feed/ - news about fedi and ATmosphere @fediversereport

dustycloud.org/blog/index.xml - @cwebber 's technical blog, she often writes about distributed systems, etc.

Thanks @Eliot_L!

Very good recommendations here 🙏

@clokep yup yup some good links here! Some might be too pythonic for me, but definitely new subscriptions in this lot

@hywan probably a tad too technical for my RSS feed but I love the idea of a blog roll 💡

@thibaultamartin me too! I've been using Miniflux... It was a little sad to see which of my old feeds have died off and become spammy landing pages, or find teams/companies that have split up... But it's definitely better than scrolling socials

Currently Inoreader, born the service and the app. I might switch to miniflux + Lire (and maybe newsboat, though I’m sure someone will write a killer rss-rs TUI some day)

@Fishrock @hywan

@thibaultamartin Les Cerises de Hiatus sont une excellente collection de bonnes nouvelles (presque chaque semaine) : lescerisesdehiatus.blogspot.co

lescerisesdehiatus.blogspot.comLes cerises du Dr Hiatus

@thibaultamartin : I believe my own blog check the two first items:

English-only: ploum.net/atom_en.xml

English+French: ploum.net/atom.xml

@thibaultamartin
For US-centric tech reporting, I follow 404 media their RSS feed is full text without an account needed. 404media.co/rss/

LMNT creates user interfaces and also comments on US tech news - lmnt.me/feed.xml

2 fun blogs that have been around a long time are Tacky Raccoons - miscellaneous fun stuff and pics/videos/gifs from around the web - tackyraccoons.com/feed/
and
Cake Wrecks - when bakers flub it - feeds.feedburner.com/CakeWreck
