The "free speech" champions like Vance (specially his Munich address), Trump, and their ilk do not respect the First Amendment, as shown by the recent ICE grabs in universities. When you substitute their "free speech" with "hate speech", it makes a lot more sense: they are bothered that one cannot freely insult or harass minorities or women, imo.
