An idea to help onboarding on Mastodon : a website with curated list of mastonauts on given subjects/languages.

Also, we could have more local lists (list of people in my town, etc).

@ploum @Gargron I'm not sure I like the idea of Official Mastodon Celebrities. Feels a little too much like Twitter's checkmark.

@noelle @ploum it can't ever be official since i don't have that kinda power by design

@Gargron @noelle : of course it would not be official. Or it should be thought as a feature (like Twitter lists). But I imagined it as a side project "create Masto-lists of people and share them with the world" (or add yourself to a list)

@ploum @noelle I suggested this idea back when following-list imports were implemented. It's like a "choose your starter pack" to have an interesting home feed straight away

@Gargron @ploum Oh, I think I see what you mean. I read it as being connected to joinmastodon etc, instead of being a separate, user-generated entity. I could get behind that.

@Gargron

This kind of functionalities can be problematic as it increase one of the biggest problem of social medias : "influencers" aren't followed because they are the most interesting people, but mostly because they where the early adopters (the earlier you come, the more you get followers, so the more visibility you get, so the move followers you get in return, etc).
But it could be interesting if the curated peoples are "low visible" accounts, to counterbalance this.

Quickly finding people to follow helps, but isn't this already (at least partly) served by hashtags? Searching for a couple hashtags and scrolling a few days back for each generally yields a couple subject-related/interested people.

It's also more organic than set lists, it's real-time, and it doesn't need any curating.
