“Male European green woodpecker in the grass”
The European green woodpecker spends much of its time feeding on ants on the ground and does not often 'drum' on trees like other woodpecker species.
Both sexes are green above and pale yellowish green below, with yellow rump and red crown and nape; the moustachial stripe has a red centre…
@nhoizey Similarly for the Northern Flicker in North America, it feeds on the ground. But I had one a few years ago drumming on my vinyl siding to make a territory-claiming noise!
@chemoelectric did it hope you would go away?
@nhoizey I think the idea is to hope other flickers will go away. :)
We have had a male American Robin repeatedly attacking its own reflection in a window, too. They will do that until the hen lays her eggs.
@chemoelectric silly birds!
