Together with Frank Sonntag I have created a new Mastodon instance: FediScience, a friendly place where scientists can let their hair down.

There I will write about my work about the quality of climate data at a scientific level in English. fediscience.org/@VictorVenema

This will be/stay my private, sometimes German and local (#Bonn) account.

There is now a Mastodon instance for publishing scientists: FediScience.

Everyone is welcome from PhD student to professor, as well as researchers from outside of academia. You are welcome to stay afterwards, but it is also easy to change to another server.

There will be a lot of science talk on this server, but there is no need to only talk science

Boosts are appreciated to let others know about this new instance.

@VictorVenema Are researchers in the humanities welcome? Engineers?

@mpjgregoire Yes and yes. At least publishing engineers. I am a PhD in electrical engineering myself.

I am from The Netherlands and Frank is from Germany. Here we do not distinguish by default between science and humanities. It is all "Wetenschap". If you want to you can specify "Naturwissenschaft" "Geisteswissenschaft". So we did not consider some people may interpret the term FediScience as excluding them.

@VictorVenema I'm an engineer myself, though a practitioner moreso than a researcher. Research in applied science is still science, I think most people would agree.

Whether scholars in the humanities -- philosophers let us say -- consider their work to be "science" or not is something I don't really know. I suspect the philosophers would be willing to debate the issue.

@mpjgregoire philosophers are willing to debate anything. Whether philosophers (and mathematicians) are still scientists/wetenschappers would be a harder question, but they are also welcome.
