Added "The Inspector General" (1949), you can watch it here:

Musical comedy starring Danny Kaye, based on the play by Nikolai Gogol.

In an Eastern European country occupied by Napoleon, a vagabond is mistaken for an important official.

I've seen this film as a child, but I can't really remember anything about it.

Hollywood really seemed to like these mistaken identity films in the 30s, 40s & 50s, though most were swashbucklers like The Prisoner of Zenda ('37 & '52).

This film would be worth watching just to see the likes of Walter Slezak, Alan Hale & Elsa Lanchester.

It could also be the studios got double screen time for one wage. 😃
