What I am hopeful will soon be improved/added to Mastodon:

* better search, cross instance (including in ppl's bio)

* better display of boosts, favs, etc.

* direct message in their own column

* more control over the interface (adding more columns)

* a twitter bridge so users can re-post their toots to the centralized thing, to drag users towards the light

* plugins on instances so they can differentiate even more

* more capybaras

@jz it will be great when we'll be able to toot to someone on Twitter, i.e. @goozby@twitter.com

@jz End to end encryption on private messages ? :-)

@jz @xals that will come with signed public messages ? :)

@Spyou @jz I think this is not easy to do because keyring, signing and decryption must be handled client-side, using Javascript or a browser extension, or by using a dedicated client. Just like emails…

@xals @Spyou
Path to freedom is *clearly* not the easiest way. But one of the most challenging, and definitely the most rewarding! <3

@jz @xals my guess is that mastodon (or any other ostatus implem or things nearby) got a chance to be mostly used via dedicated mobile apps ... maybee easyier to widespread end to end crypto than with GPG on emails.

@xals @Spyou @jz Maybe it's can be like on ProtonMail ? The key is generated the first time client side, then encrypt with a password (same than the account ?) and upload to the server. Like this, users don't need to manage their keys ans can't lose it.

@xals @jz would be lovely, but you can't keep them if you change device/reload the page.

@jz cool! You should consider opening a github issue for some of these, to let the maintainers know what you'd like to see.

@jz @ashfurrow there is already many ways to do the twitter bridge. Run a little python script, or using IFTTT. Though I wonder the real impact of cross-posting as a method to invite people to switch. I usually unfollow cross-posters because they are mostly not here to discuss. I do sometimes cross-post myself on social networks that I left and never saw anyone following me where I actually am as a result of that. What's your experience?
