@deadsuperhero You overestimate the technical knowledge of patent examiners. Remember when a patent-holder sued Microsoft over MP3 files? Even though MSFT had bought licenses from several other patent-holders, there were others whose patents covered the same techniques & technical details. This suggests that patent examiners have neither the knowledge nor the investigation time needed to verify that a potential patent is indeed a new idea.
